Why Be Concerned

Decades ago no one thought a thing of people of all ages smoking cigarettes. It was common to see pregnant women puffing away. Just in the last five years there has been a major public outcry and plenty of research to back it up regarding second hand smoke. There are plenty of buildings across the United States where smoking is prohibited today. And there are some states that are looking into banning smoking in all buildings. It’s taken a long time and a lot of people suffering and dying to get to the point where everyone agrees there is a public hazard of epidemic proportion.

Are we in the same place today with cell phone and wireless technology use that Americans were in the 1940s and 1950s regarding smoking? There are some disturbing trends that we are seeing in children. It’s cancer again, just like it was in the mid-twentieth century when smoking was in vogue. And there is a dramatic increase in autism. Bees are disappearing at alarming rates in countries in which there is high cell phone use. Researchers are finding the links between all of these “new” trends and our wireless society, which is in vogue right now.

Maybe this is the time to trust our instincts and protect our kids. There are plenty of people today that wish they had trusted their instincts and protected their children (or themselves) from the harms of smoking years ago.

Are you going to wait for the long-term research to determine if your kids are in harms way today? What of the results are more immediate than what has presented itself with smoking? How many of you allowed your children to puff on a cigarette at age 8, 12 and even 16 years of age? Why are we allowing this experiment to take place in our children’s bodies, aren’t we suppose to protect them from known and unknown dangers? We are their providers, protectors and their voice. Educate and protect yourselves and your family before putting a potentially harmful device into their hands.
